Colonial Salute

Just a quick shoutout to the George Washington University Colonials, who have the best record in the entire country (25-1)! For the seniors who play their last home game tomorrow, congratulations. Every year, thousands of student-athletes enroll at a college because the coach has convinced them that this is where they can realize their dreams, but not many can graduate four years later and claim the kind of achievements that you can.

For the fans, many questions swirl around the program right now: When will Pops be able to play? Where will GW be seeded in the NCAA's? Will Hobbs end Montrell McDonald's suspension? Will Hobbs be hired away in the offseason? Forget about all that and enjoy tomorrow and the rest of the season, however long it lasts.

GW has one Sweet 16 appearance in its history and was lucky that Southern University cleared the path by upsetting Georgia Tech in the first round in 1993. A year later, GW made its second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, losing in the second round to a Connecticut team led by Donyell Marshall and Ray Allen. The Colonials haven't won a game in the tourney since then.

It's hard not to get excited about this year's team and their postseason chances. Still, I hope everyone stands long and applauds and loud tomorrow when the seniors are introduced to than them for giving Colonials fans something big to wish for.
